I chose wireless MEMS because I was interested in how the systems were powered. When I did my research I discoved that MEMS
are being powered in every way imaginable from solar to nuclear.

The Smart Dust project was funded by DARPA. Smart Dust is composed of a power
source, a way for the motes to communicate with each other, a processor and a sensor.

Smart dust systems are made with redundant motes so that if one breaks down the other motes in the system can keep functioning
without it.

The most familiar item in which you will find wireless MEMS is the cell phone but they are being developed in a wide variety
of areas. Smart dust systems can be used by firefighters to find the safest route of a building. They can be implanted in
heart patients to monitor the pressure in the arteries. A lot of research is currently being done to make MEMS devices to
help the handicapped.

Wireless MEMS have many cost and performance advantages over more traditional technologies.
